The drama Flight of the Bumble Bee, an outstanding production of the 2024 Jiangsu Zijin Culture and Arts Festival, was performed at Jingjiang Grand Theatre, Taizhou city, Jiangsu province on Oct 4 during the National Day holiday.

This drama, adapted from the novel of the same name by Jiangsu writer Huang Beijia, was performed by the Jiangsu Children's Art Theatre.

During the Chinese People's War of Resistance Against Japanese Aggression (1931-45), several universities from East China relocated to southwestern areas, including Sichuan province and Chongqing municipality, with the most famous being Huaxiba in Chengdu, Sichuan.

Set against the backdrop of Huaxiba during the war, the drama centers on the family of Huang Yuhua, the dean of the College of Agriculture at the University of Nanking, in today's Nanjing, Jiangsu province, and tells the story of the protagonist Huang Chengzi and her brother Shen Tianlu as they grow during wartime.

The actors were immersed in their roles, bringing to life the touching stories of heroes from wartime for the audience, drawing their applause and tears.

The drama Flight of the Bumble Bee was first staged in 2021 and performed 187 times.

Shi Guosheng, the director of the Jiangsu Children's Art Theatre, said that creating this drama aims to help the younger generation carry forward the national spirit.

"What inspired me the most was the patriotic spirit of Shen Tianlu, Huang Chengzi, and Huang Shuya. We should study hard and contribute to the prosperity of our country in the future," said the audience Liu Qinyue.
