Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, located in Jingjiang, a county-level city of Taizhou, signed a contract with NissenKaiun, a Japanese shipping giant, to build four very large ammonia carriers, each boasting a capacity of 88,000 cubic meters, with a total transaction value of approximately $440 million.

This marks a significant breakthrough in liquefied gas carrier production for Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group, following its first order of very large ethane carriers in May, making it the first private shipbuilding enterprise in China to enter the VLAC market.

These new vessels will utilize designs from the Marine Design & Research Institute of China, one of the most prestigious shipbuilding research institutes in China.

The capability to build vessels for the safe transportation of liquid ammonia in large quantities showcases the first-rate technology, advanced large-scale production facilities, and high-level engineering management strength of the Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group.

The Yangzijiang Shipbuilding Group has focused on the liquefied gas ship market in recent years. As of the first half of this year, it had been ranked as the top player among private shipbuilding enterprises in China regarding order volume, with delivery schedules extending to March 2029. The company achieved an operating revenue of 15.2 billion yuan ($2.12 billion) in the first half of 2024.
