The cargo throughput at ports in Jingjiang, a county-level city in Taizhou, Jiangsu province, exceeded 132.42 million metric tons in the first six months of this year, a year-on-year increase of 11.5 percent and ranking first in Taizhou, local media reported on July 18.

The city's cargo throughput of foreign trade reached nearly 1.40 million tons, up 30.3 percent from the previous year, while that of domestic trade was 19.96 million tons, representing a 9.1 percent year-on-year growth.

Last year, Jingjiang started allowing 100,000-ton CAPE-type bulk carriers to arrive at local ports on a regular basis, further enhancing competitiveness, according to Xu Xiaodong, deputy general manager of Jiangsu Guoxin Qingang Port.

Jingjiang Port is the first county-level 100 million-ton port to the north of the Yangtze River. In 2023, it handled 255 million tons of cargo, an increase of 6.1 percent year-on-year, putting it among the top 20 ports in the country.

At the Jingjiang Port of Shenzhen International Holdings Ltd, the shortest recorded operation time for a single 50,000-ton ship is 14.62 hours. Since its trial operation in late 2023, the port has received 73 vessels and handled over 6.22 million tons of cargo.
