The economic developments of Jingjiang city – a county-level city administered by Taizhou city, in East China's Jiangsu province – have been boosted by significant growth in gross domestic product.

According to the latest statistics, GDP in the first half of the current year hit 62.78 billion yuan ($8.62 billion), an increase of 8.6 percent. That ranked it first in the region under the jurisdiction of Taizhou and it was 2.4 percentage points higher than the average level of growth in prefecture-level city.

The performance has been attributed to the Jingjiang's emphasis on strengthening the real economy and attracting substantial projects.

Jingjiang signed up 22 new projects worth over 500 million yuan in the first six months of the year. Moreover, the city started construction of 10 new projects with a total investment of 5.35 billion yuan and completed five new projects worth 3.07 billion yuan in the same period.

In particular, the shipbuilding industry in the city experienced a significant increase in project completions, with a growth rate of over 50 percent during the first half of the year. This boost in the shipbuilding industry played a key role in driving the city's overall export growth, which reached 32.4 percent.

Currently, Jingjiang is moving to make progress in various fields – such as project construction, rural vitalization, improvements to the standard of living of the population as well improvements of work patterns and productivity.
