Jingjiang athlete shines at Chengdu Universiade games

Qian Tianyi has been making waves at the Chengdu Universiade summer world university games in the city of Chengdu – in Southwest China's Sichuan province – scooping up two gold medals in table tennis.

Qian, who was born in 2000 in Jingjiang city in East China's Jiangsu province, has been a standout performer for the Chinese team, which has been dominating the tournament.

Qian's success began on Aug 1, when she – along with teammates including He Zhuojia and Wang Xiaotong – won the gold medal in the women's team event.

They took on the Japanese team in a fierce finals tussle, emerging victorious with a score of 3-2.

China's coach Zang Yuying praised Qian Tianyi for her steady performance and great demeanor on the court.

Qian continued her winning streak in the mixed doubles event. Partnering with Liu Dingshuo, they advanced to the quarterfinals with a flawless 4-0 score.

In the subsequent semifinals and finals, they defeated their opponents with scores of 4-2 and 4-1, respectively, sealing their victory and claiming the title.

The Universiade's table tennis competition ended on Aug 5, with a total of seven gold medals up for grabs.
