Influential shipbuilding enterprises in Jingjiang city – a county-level city in Taizhou, East China's Jiangsu province – are now operating at full capacity as they enjoy a resurgence in orders.
By the end of 2022, holding orders of Jingjiang shipbuilding enterprises accounted for 10.7 percent of the global share, with orders scheduled until 2026.
Jingjiang city's shipbuilding sector continued to lead the Chinese market last year in terms of output as well as new and holding orders.
The city's shipbuilding output hit 7.45 million deadweight tonnes (dwt), accounting for 42.8 percent of the provincial total, 19.7 percent of the national total, and 9.3 percent of global output, according to data from the China Association of the National Shipbuilding Industry and the municipal bureau of industry and information.
In 2022, the city saw 93 newly ordered ships weighing 8.44 million dwt, accounting for 46.4 percent, 18.5 percent, and 10.2 percent of the provincial, national, and global total, respectively.
The city also held 230 orders totaling 22.99 dwt last year, representing 47.3 percent, 21.8 percent, and 10.7 percent of the provincial, national, and global total, respectively.
In addition, the output value of the city's shipbuilding enterprises above a designated size – with annual revenue of 20 million yuan ($2.95 million) or more – stood at 27.99 billion yuan, up 22.4 percent year-on-year.
