Thirty key healthcare industry projects with a total investment of 17.5 billion yuan ($2.61 billion) were launched on May 31 in Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone.

A healthcare industrial park covering 5.08 square kilometers was also established in the zone on the same day.

The projects cover the fields of high-end medical devices, biological drugs, high-end generic drugs, and pharmaceutical services, such as an ultrasonic surgical instruments R&D and production base, a human vaccines industrialization base, and a medical verification base for the first set of domestic proton therapy systems.

The projects include newly-introduced ones, leading enterprises' projects to increase capital and expand production, as well as domestic-funded and foreign-funded ones.

The projects and the industrial park will inject new impetus into the upgrading of the healthcare industry in the zone, and Hefei city as a whole, and will contribute to the formation of a stronger industrial cluster, according to local officials.
