Hefei teenagers perform well in intl sports event
Players from Hefei team performed well at the 2019 Aalborg International Youth Sports Tournament in Denmark from July 31 to Aug 4.
Two members - Li Zhouyupeng and Li Ruofei - from a middle school in Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone, won the men's and women's singles champion and took second place in the mixed doubles in the badminton competition.
With other national players, they also ranked second in the men's doubles and women's doubles.
The tournament is held once every four years and includes 10 individual sports such as football, fencing, tennis and badminton.
This year, nearly 3,000 athletes from 15 countries participated in the tournament, with about 200 people signed up for the badminton competition.
Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone is actively developing sports, education and other social causes. The zone has set up 10 sports associations and was awarded Outstanding Sports Unit of Anhui Province.
To date, 26 badminton players have been selected for China's professional sports teams through a training base established in April 2018 in the zone.
