Chinese soccer player Wu Lei has been named the first global band ambassador of the iFLYTEK Translator developed by Chinese AI company iFLYTEK.

The company also became the official translation partner of Spanish football club RCD Espanyol at a signing ceremony in Barcelona, Spain, on Aug 5.

Wu called the AI translation device his "secret weapon", which has helped him out on numerous occasions since his transfer to RCD Espanyol.

"I am honored to speak on behalf of China's technology and I am happy to make voices from China heard," Wu said in Chinese. The device quickly translated his words into Spanish at the signing ceremony.

Wu made history by becoming the first Chinese player to score in a La Liga match on March 2. His sparkling performance is drawing increasing worldwide attention.

"Wu and iFLYTEK Translator share same spirit of profession and persistence," said Zhang Jidong, vice president of iFLYTEK, expressing his hope to promote applications in sports and cultural exchange through their cooperation.

Launched in 2016, iFLYTEK Translator has upgraded itself with advanced intelligent speech technology, possessing core functions such as offline translation, dialect translation and industry AI translation.

It has been promoted as a competitive brand in international communication since being used at the China International Import Expo, the Boao Forum for Asia, the China-France Tourism Year and other international events.
