Tech giant Huawei Technologies Co agreed to work with Hefei University of Technology and Hefei DE Electron Co to expand applications of 5G technology, according to the understanding signed on July 16.
Huawei and the university will build the province of Anhui's first 5G innovation joint laboratory, through which they will launch a pilot program for 5G applications in formation flights of unmanned aerial vehicles or drones, establish a 5G industrial internet platform and promote the construction of smart campuses.
Liang Liang, president of the university, said the agreement would facilitate the development of information subjects and the university would actively carry out the projects, making them a good example of university-enterprise cooperation.
Ye Changlin, vice president of Huawei in China, said the cooperation would play a significant role in the application of 5G technology the development of the 5G industry in Anhui province. The company will lend support to emerging industries linked to the digital economy through its strong research capabilities and cutting-edge technologies.
Located in Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone, Hefei DE Electron Co is a developer of high-end medical equipment and online medical care platforms. The company's General Manager, Liu Jin, said the cooperation would help improve health care.
According to Liu, 5G technology can help realize the remote real-time guidance of high-level medical experts on operations and treatment in grassroots hospitals. It will greatly improve the level of minimally invasive surgery in primary medical institutions, thus effectively solving the problem of uneven distribution of medical resources in China, he added.
