The Innovation Institute for Quantum Information and Quantum Technology was topped out in Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone in Anhui province on June 30.
The quantum innovation institute is operated by the Chinese Academy of Sciences and is the world's largest quantum information laboratory.
The institute, focusing on innovation in quantum technology, will serve as an important component of the national laboratory system, according to Zhang Tianpei, director of the Anhui Development and Reform Commission.
After receiving final approval from central authorities, the institute will work to promote interdisciplinary collaboration in quantum information science and technology development, said Pan Jianwei, a renowned Chinese quantum scientist.
After completion, it will recruit a large number of scientists and entrepreneurs into the zone and promote the commercialization of achievements in quantum science and relevant cutting-edge technology.
According to Zhang, funds for the development of quantum industry have been set up to help Anhui propel itself into a globally leading region in the field of quantum science and technology.
