Zhanjiang in South China's Guangdong province topped the province in terms of the composite index of ambient air quality in September, according to the province's Department of Ecology and Environment.
The city had a 100 percent rate of days with excellent or good air quality in the third quarter of 2020, while its composite index of ambient air quality from July to September was 1.89, a decrease of 27.9 percent compared to that of the same period of the previous year.
The city's average particulate matter less than 2.5 microns in diameter (PM2.5) concentration in the third quarter of 2020 was 11 micrograms per cubic meter, while its average concentration of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen dioxide was 6 mcg per cu m and 12 mcg per cu m respectively. All averages reached the prescribed national standards.
