Sanling Mountain in Zhanjiang was recently selected as one of the 10 samples for ecological restoration in Guangdong province.

The mountain was previously illegally dredged to make bricks and raise shrimp in high-altitude ponds, causing 300 hectares of the mountain to be seriously damaged.

The ecological restoration project of Sanling Mountain covered a total of 1,512.4 hectares, including the reforestation of 300 hectares, as well as the stand improvement of remnant forests and the restoration of tropical monsoon forests.

Greenways, which total a length of 40 kilometers and connect Sanling Mountain Forest Park with the city center, were constructed and have become recreational hot spots for local residents.

In addition, mountain ponds and wetlands of 1,000 mu (66.67 hectares) were built around the mountain, as well as more than 1.2 million trees covering over 80 varieties.

The ecological restoration project, which started in 2009, took 10 years to complete.
