Xuwen county in Zhanjiang faces greater challenges in terms of the control and prevention of pneumonia caused by the novel coronavirus as it connects with Guangdong province and Hainan province geographically.

Xuwen has sent 80 officials to Haikou, Hainan province to take part in epidemic prevention and control efforts since Jan 31. They were divided into five groups, including three groups at the front line, an information group, and a security group. The front-line groups are stationed in Xiuying Port, Xinhai Port, and Guangdong-Hainan Railway South Port in Haikou, working three shifts around the clock.

The Xuwen government and the Haikou government have also announced specific measures for passengers from Hubei province, the epicenter of the novel coronavirus outbreak in China. Starting from 4 pm on Feb 1, Hubei passengers and vehicles can only purchase tickets at the designated window in Haikou's Xinhai Port with eligible documents to leave the island.
