Two members of the Guangdong Provincial Committee of the CPPCC, Zhao Liyu and Chen Binghu, who lives in Zhanjiang, propose to build the city into a popular tourist destination for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

According to them, Zhanjiang should regard leisure tourism as an economic growth point, and complement the Greater Bay Area in terms of urban function positioning and industrial positioning to accelerate its becoming the growth pole of Guangdong province.

"As the central city of Beibu Gulf, the provincial sub-center city, and the backyard garden of the Greater Bay Area, Zhanjiang is rich in ecological and marine resources, and has a developed coastal tourism industry," enumerated Chen Binghu in her proposal, which also mentioned Zhanjiang's many other resource advantages.

She hopes that Zhanjiang will increase planning and support for the marine gourmet industry. Meanwhile, the city needs to issue investment policies on local tourism to attract international capital to the development of its existing island tourism resources, and provide residents in the Greater Bay Area with more comprehensive and diverse tourism projects.

Zhao Liyu suggested that Zhanjiang develop cruise yacht tourism, explore simplifying the entry and exit procedures of cruise ships, yachts and passengers, and develop high-end tourism projects and routes.

She expressed her hope that Zhanjiang can build a diversified tourism product system combining cultural history, leisure vacations and health care, further enrich boutique and characteristic routes, and explore the development of high-speed rail and train ferry tourism services. She also suggested that Zhanjiang and Hainan province can develop innovative tourism products and expand sources of tourism together.
