Leaders of the Zhanjiang ecological environment bureau and heads of 30 departments, branches, and directly affiliated units of the city's eco-environment system reported their work achievements in 2019 at an annual summary meeting held on Jan 4.

In 2019, Zhanjiang's air quality index maintained its top 3 position in Guangdong province, with an annual average concentration of PM2.5 of 26 micrograms per cubic meter, which is the best level in recent years. The surface water quality in nine sections all maintained its excellent rating, passing national and provincial examinations. The city has also solved illegal problems related to seven county-level drinking water sources and 312 polluting enterprises (places) three months in advance.

In 2020, related ecological environment departments in Zhanjiang will continue to promote the improvement of the city's ecological environment quality. The city will establish and improve major project promotion mechanisms to promote high-quality economic development. In addition, it will implement pollution prevention and environmental protection inspection and rectification measures, as well as promote water quality improvement and air pollution prevention. The city will also further strengthen rural sewage treatment, drinking water source environment improvement, as well as the prevention and control of hazardous solid waste pollution.
