Zhanjiang held an investment promotion conference Nov 23 to promote the city to domestic and foreign guests who attended the commencement of the BASF (Guangdong) Verbund Site Project. The conference also aimed to promote cooperation and exchanges between the parties.

Attendees at the conference included: Clemens von Goetze, the German ambassador to China; Martin Fleischer, consul-general of Germany in Guangzhou; Martin Brudermuller, chairman of the board of executive directors for BASF SE; Stephan Kothrade, president and chairman of BASF China; Li Shousheng, president of China Petroleum and Chemical Industry Federation; Ren Cangfeng, director of Guangdong Provincial Department of Finance; as well as leaders of relevant ministries and commissions in China and departments in Guangdong, BASF guests and leading officials from Zhanjiang.

Cao Xing, deputy mayor of Zhanjiang, gave an introduction on the economic and social development of the city, pointing out that Zhanjiang is becoming a transport hub of China's multiple mode connectivity, the cradle of the development of the port industry, an international first-class coastal tourism demonstration zone, and a new stage for opening-up cooperation.

At present, Zhanjiang has a leading domestic and international first-class, high-efficiency green carbon steel production base, and is working hard to build a 37-square-kilometer world-class petrochemical production base. Marked by four projects with investment and output value exceeding $10 billion each, Zhanjiang will form a world-class heavy chemical industry base in the future. With advantages in resources, location, environment and policies, Zhanjiang is becoming an investment highland that attracts domestic and foreign capital, technology and talents.

Cao also welcomes investors from home and abroad to come to Zhanjiang for inspection and guidance, and carry out cooperation on a wider range and deeper level.
