Zhanjiang's Xiashan district recently installed awnings at its main traffic intersections under the scorching summer sun.
The installations began on July 5 at five major traffic intersections, including the crossing near DSC shopping mall, the intersection of Wenming Road and Renmin Avenue, as well as the junction of Zhanjiang Airport.
Eight to 12 sunshades were erected at each of the five intersections on July 7, helping the public, traffic police, and volunteer traffic wardens escape from heat waves or rain.
According to local media, the awnings are four meters long and four meters wide. They have a steel frame structure and can resist a grade-10 typhoon. Slogans have also been painted on them to raise public awareness of traffic safety.
