Zhanjiang Customs cracks down on smuggling

Zhanjiang Customs filed 192 smuggling cases involving 1.25 billion yuan ($186 million) during the "Sword at the National Gate" operations carried out in 2018.

Twenty-six of them were criminal cases involving 1.19 billion yuan, while 166 were administrative cases involving 57.93 million yuan. The cases mainly involved drugs, weapons, endangered animals, foreign waste, agricultural products, and dutiable commodities.

Of particular note was the Aug 1 case involving the smuggling of products made from endangered and rare animals, including nautiloideos and leopards. The amount of money involved in the cases was as much as 600 million yuan.

Another March 16 smuggling case involved the seizure of 1,400 tons of marine products worth about 417 million yuan.

In order to promote the healthy development of the social economy, Zhanjiang Customs will maintain its hard line on smuggling this year through the unified deployment of the General Administration of Customs.
