Zhanjiang reported better air quality during this year's Spring Festival holiday from Feb 4 to 10 due to stricter regulations on fireworks.
The air quality index (AQI) was recorded at 1.92, with all seven days measured above National Grade-II Level. The average concentration of PM2.5 and PM 10 dropped by 50 percent and 43 percent, respectively, from last year.

The Chinese traditionally celebrate the Spring Festival holiday with fireworks and firecrackers, as custom dictates that the noise and fire created by the pyrotechnics can drive away evil spirits.
In recent years, more and more Chinese cities have implemented stricter firework controls in urban areas during Spring Festival due to environmental and public safety concerns.
