A delegation from the Hong Kong Institute of Environmentalists (HKIOE) visited Zhanjiang on Dec 7 for discussions on bay governance, treatment of solid waste and environment-related law enforcement.

Zhanjiang and Hong Kong are both port cities and can learn from each other in environmental protection and urban sewage collection and treatment, said an official of the Zhanjiang Environmental Protection Bureau at a symposium.

According to the official, Hong Kong's high standards and efficient systems for urban construction management and environmental governance should be promoted in Zhanjiang.

HKIOE experts detailed Hong Kong's sewage collection and harbor area treatment systems at the symposium.

Pan Jinghe, president of HKIOE, said that the visit taught him more about environmental protection work in the Chinese mainland, while expecting more cooperation with mainland cities.
