Zhanjiang was rated 62nd out of 100 major domestic cities in terms of its appeal to immigrants in the third quarter of 2018, according to a China Urban Vitality Research Report jointly compiled by the China Academy of Urban Planning & Design and Baidu Maps.

Baidu Maps, one of the biggest map services in China, used location and traffic data on its open platform to trace the influx of immigrants to each city. Those who have stayed for more than two months are seen as permanent residents.

The rankings were measured by the ratio of newly settled permanent residents of the city versus that of the whole country.

The 10 most attractive cities in this regard were Shenzhen, Beijing, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Dongguan, Suzhou, Chengdu, Foshan, Hangzhou and Chongqing.
