The export of plastic shoes made in Zhanjiang's Wuchuan saw a considerable jump during the first four months of this year, netting 150 million yuan ($22.88 million) in revenue, an increase of 106 percent compared to the same period last year, according to the city's customs office on June 10.

Crowned as the hometown of plastic shoes in China, Wuchuan has no fewer than 450 plastic shoe factories with more than 20,000 employees.

With an annual production of one billion pairs, plastic shoes, such as slippers, sandals and flip flops, manufactured in the county enjoy great popularity across the world, including Southeast Asia, Middle East, Africa, Europe and America.

The Zhanjiang government attaches great importance to the traditional industry in Wuchuan and holds special seminars from time to time, to help local shoe factories expand in the market and gain better understanding of current export policies.

The shoe industry in Wuchuan generated 8.5 billion yuan in revenue, accounting for 33 percent of the total industrial revenue of the county-level city in Zhanjiang last year.
