The Wuchuan county in Zhanjiang, Guangdong province started construction of a new campus for the county-based Xiangyang Primary School recently, part of the county's efforts to improve the quality of education, according to county officials.
Located in the north of the county, the new campus is planned to cover an area of 15,600 square meters, nine times bigger than that of the original site. The expansion will house 48 classes and be able to cater for 2,160 students upon completion.
The county government has attached great importance to the construction of the new campus and has allocated a budget of 28 million yuan ($4.33 million) for its construction.
As the only one primary school in the north of the county, Xiangyang plays a key role in local government's drive to optimize school districts, add more schooling opportunities and keep education resources balanced in Wuchuan.
