New season red oranges, a specialty of Lianjiang, a county-level city in Zhanjiang, have come into market. Picking fresh oranges in local orchards is a unique experience for visitors to the city.

More than 100 tourists from Zhanjiang, Maoming and Guangxi came to a planting base in Shijing town, Lianjiang, on Nov 23 for orange picking. They picked nearly 350 kg of red oranges.

"I received several groups of tourists this morning. Thanks to it, we don't need to worry about sales at all," said a local farmer.

Orange picking has promoted rural tourism in Lianjiang and improved local farmers' incomes.

Lianjiang has introduced a number of preferential policies to support its red orange industry. The planting area expanded to 47,500 mu (3,167 hectares) this year, an increase of 6,851 mu over last year.

The total production is expected to reach 43,000 tons, with output value exceeding 300 million yuan ($47 million).
