Despite the grim market situation, Zhanjiang's foreign trade with the EU countries in first eight months of 2015 posted a sharp increase, amounting to 2.09 billion yuan ($328.3 million), up 80.9 percent from the same period last year, according to Zhanjiang Customs.
The city's exports to the EU hit 960 million yuan, representing an increase of 36 percent over the same period last year, while its imports from the EU amounted to 113 million yuan, 150 percent increase of Jan-to-Aug last year. Products exported were mainly furniture, machinery and equipment, and plywood, while import commodities included production equipment and pyrite.
