Rural revitalization in Fujian pays off
Yin Li, Party secretary of Fujian province, released a report stating that the province will accelerate rural revitalization and ecological civilization construction at the 11th Fujian Provincial Congress of the Communist Party of China that opened in Fuzhou on Nov 26.
"As a rural grass-roots representative, I was deeply encouraged after hearing the report this morning. The report pointed out the direction for future rural development, which boosted my confidence in work," said Dai Qinghua, Party chief of Zikoufang village in Fujian's Mingxi county.
Over the past 24 years, Zikoufang village and other neighboring communities have taken a variety of measures, including the establishment of a citrus cooperative to improve planting technology and citrus quality, to develop the citrus industry.
As a result of these measures, the price of citrus has risen from 0.6 yuan ($0.09) per kilogram to 4 yuan per kg. Land rental has also increased from 50 yuan per mu (about 667 square meters) to 600 yuan per mu.
"I will convey the spirit of the Congress to the villagers when I return, and I will devote myself to the cause of rural revitalization and make villagers' lives as sweet as the citrus itself," said Dai.
