East China's Fujian province saw a rebound in its tourism sector over the Labor Day holiday, which ran from May 1 to 5, according to the latest news from the Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism on May 5.

Statistics show that tourist attractions in Fujian received over 11.5 million travelers over the five-day holiday, bringing in over 8.3 billion yuan (about $1.17 billion) in tourism revenue.

Government officials said that scenic spots in the province have made the health and safety of travelers their top priority as they resume operations and have taken strict measures to reduce the risk of COVID-19 infection, such as requiring reservations to be made online in advance in order to avoid overcrowding.

Culture and tourism departments in the province have set up a joint response and cooperation mechanism to strengthen the management and supervision of 85 key scenic spots during the holiday.

Various preferential measures, such as issuing consumption coupons and livestreaming events have also helped boost the recovery of tourism in Fujian.

Meizhou Island Scenic Spot in Putian has cooperated with video platforms to livestream its natural beauty and characteristic products to attract more tourists.

Short-distance personal car trips, coastal tourism and rural agricultural tourism were most popular among travelers over the holiday, according to an official of the provincial department of culture and tourism.

He added that the province will further promote its "Refreshing Fujian" tourism brand and accelerate the growth of the tourism sector.
