Shaoxing, Hong Kong expand cooperation

A promotion conference for Shaoxing, Zhejiang province, took place in Hong Kong on June 12.
The conference culminated in the signing of 18 industrial projects with a combined investment of 26 billion yuan ($3.59 billion). It was attended by Wen Nuan, Party secretary of Shaoxing, and Carrie Lam Cheng Yuet-ngor, former chief executive of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. The conference aimed to enhance economic, cultural, and tourism cooperation between Shaoxing and Hong Kong.

In his speech, Wen said that the Shaoxing natives in Hong Kong would act as bridges, encouraging more Hong Kong enterprises to invest in Shaoxing. He also highlighted the potential for Shaoxing enterprises to expand their presence in Hong Kong.
Lam, in her address, underscored the potential for strengthening ties between Shaoxing and Hong Kong across various fields. She said she hopes for Shaoxing to provide more employment and entrepreneurial opportunities for Hong Kong's youth.
In 2023, Shaoxing's exports to Hong Kong totaled 2.61 billion yuan, marking a 40 percent year-on-year increase. To date, Shaoxing has invested in 262 projects in Hong Kong, with a total investment exceeding $1.93 billion.
