Xinchang, located in the east of Zhejiang province, was established as a county in 908. Occupying some 1,213 square kilometers, the county has 16 towns (sub-districts) and 415 incorporated villages under its administration.
As a mountainous county, Xinchang used to be beset by poverty and environmental pollution. In recent years, it has made great efforts to transform its development mode and managed to become one of the 100 most powerful counties in 11 years and a national ecological county in eight years.
