Rose, a Ugandan woman who married into a family in Lishui's Suichang county, Zhejiang province, shared her rural life experience as an international observer at an event of the 2026 World Internet Conference Wuzhen Summit on Nov 2.
Rose settled in Suichang with her husband Wu Jianyun in 2015. She recalled that the mountains, mud houses, and muddy roads she first saw in southwestern Zhejiang differed greatly from the Chinese cities she had seen on TV.
Digital development later changed village life. In July 2021, she began posting short videos of rural life and now has over 15 million followers, helping overseas viewers see a different side of the Chinese countryside. She said that online shopping now delivers to the village in two to three days, while online registration, medical reports, and utility payments have made life more convenient.
In 2024, she brought her Ugandan family to Suichang. They were amazed by the paved roads and modern houses and asked whether the place was urban or rural.
Rose also shared Suichang dried sweet potatoes at the event, saying the internet helps local products reach more people. She hopes to keep documenting her Suichang life and sharing Zhejiang's digital common prosperity stories with overseas friends.
