The China-Russia Friendship Exchange Series by the Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe from Jinhua, Zhejiang province, was held on Sept 21 in Krasnodar, Russia.

The performances marked the 30th anniversary of the China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination and five years of friendly exchanges between Jinhua and Krasnodar, while promoting further cultural exchange between the two cities.

Wuju Opera, a national intangible cultural heritage with a 500-year history, is known for its blend of literary and martial elements. The Zhejiang Wuju Opera Troupe has performed in over 80 countries and regions, with over 5 million people watching in-person and 200 million viewing online.

The troupe held an interactive activity on the square beside the theater on Sept 20, performing classic excerpts to locals.

On the evening of Sept 21, the troupe presented Three Battles with the White-boned Demon, which is based on Journey to the West, featuring martial arts, dynamic movements, and singing. The performance used bilingual subtitles, earning applause from Russian officials, artists, and residents.

Since 2021, Jinhua and Krasnodar have engaged in exchanges in culture, education, and healthcare, with this visit expected to deepen cooperation further.
