Zhoushan in Zhejiang province handled 1,700 repair jobs on foreign-flagged vessels in the first seven months of 2026, up 4.5 percent year-on-year, with output value rising 10.1 percent to 9.94 billion yuan (about $1.48 billion).

Xinya Shipyard, one of the city's major operators, has repaired more than 300 vessels so far this year. Its repair orders rose 16 percent year-on-year in the first seven months, a record for the period, said Wang Zhou, manager of the company's administrative affairs department.

The yard handles bulk carriers, container ships, oil tankers, chemical tankers, roll-on/roll-off ships, liquefied natural gas and liquefied petroleum gas carriers, as well as offshore platforms and offshore support vessels.

Zhoushan accounted for more than 45 percent of China's ship-repair market and over 20 percent of the global market in 2025. Five Zhoushan companies ranked among the world's top 10 ship repairers, with Xinya Shipyard, Huafeng Shipyard, and Changhong International occupying the top three positions by completed repairs.

Zhoushan Customs has introduced remote quarantine inspections conducted via telecommunications and one-window handling for the supply and return of materials for ships under repair and for vessel entry-exit procedures, shortening clearance times for repair parts and marine materials.
