Manufacturers in Huzhou, Zhejiang province, have adjusted production to meet rising demand for sun-protective clothing, cooling appliances, and outdoor goods as temperatures climb this summer.
In Zhili town, a leading hub for the manufacturing of childrenswear in China, functional fabrics featuring UV protection, cool-touch properties, and moisture-wicking performance have helped keep production lines running through the traditional summer off-season.
One local fabric retailer has become a major supplier to 17 childrenswear manufacturers that have shifted production toward sun-protective clothing. One local childrenswear manufacturer has production scheduled through mid-October.
Export markets are also helping smooth seasonal fluctuations. Some companies are using cross-border e-commerce to reach overseas markets and fill production gaps during the domestic off-season.
In Nanxun district, demand for portable fans has driven orders for small electric motors. One manufacturer has seen its finished products sold in more than 70 countries and regions, while another is developing motors for air-conditioning compressors and cooling fans used in new energy vehicles.
Anji's traditional bamboo-fan makers are also tracking overseas weather trends to adjust production.
In Deqing county, meanwhile, rising demand for camping has pushed tent orders into next year. Tent sales at one outdoor product company rose more than 100 percent year-on-year in the first seven months, while sales of awnings increased by more than 70 percent.
