Shaoxing care programs support children in need
Since the beginning of 2025, the Shaoxing civil affairs bureau has spearheaded a project to care for children in need, completing information collection and profiling for 1,935 children. As a key component of this initiative, the bureau's "Wings Adding Plan" provided targeted support to 40 children with disabilities from disadvantaged families. By adopting a "one child, one plan" approach, personalized rehabilitation programs were designed for these children, resulting in a total of 8,082 rehabilitation sessions, 120 special education courses, and six parent training and life-skills guidance activities.
Children at the Shaoxing Children's Welfare Institute, along with community children and their families, baked new year cakes under staff guidance during an institute open day event on Dec 27. This "open-door approach", actively promoted by the institute, has led to initiatives such as "Colorful Winter Vacation Journey" and "Saturday Joy Classroom" that support children across the city. These programs delivered approximately 600 times of services throughout the year, while more than 10 multifunctional classrooms and rehabilitation training rooms were made available to the public.
"Before Spring Festival, we will collaborate with the Municipal Charity Federation to organize a winter camp for children in need," said an official from the Shaoxing civil affairs bureau. "This year, we also plan to conduct mental health assessments for 2,000 children in difficult circumstances and children left behind by migrant parents."
