The Hainan Free Trade Port is approaching a key milestone as island-wide special customs operations enter the final countdown, prompting a renewed surge of interest and investment from Zhejiang businesses.

As preparations accelerate for the launch of island-wide special customs operations, not only are new enterprises moving into Hainan, but Zhejiang companies that invested earlier are also increasing their commitments, expanding both capital input and business scope.

Yang Yiqing, executive deputy director of the Zhejiang Entrepreneurs Research Institute at Zhejiang Gongshang University, said Zhejiang entrepreneurs are known for strong entrepreneurial drive. He added that the free trade port's policy environment provides new support for Zhejiang companies seeking to accelerate overseas expansion, transition toward high-end manufacturing and offshore finance, and tap global markets.

Tian Shaoqing, an MBA adviser at the International Business School of Hainan University, said cooperation between Zhejiang and Hainan is entering a new phase, particularly in cross-border e-commerce.

He said Zhejiang brings mature experience in digital economy development, while Hainan provides international connectivity, adding that the interaction between the two regions is only beginning to unfold.
