Several regions in Zhejiang province were named on the 2025 list of China's happiest cities, which was released on Dec 9 at the Happy Cities Forum held in Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province.

The annual survey-and-selection event, now in its 19th year, is organized by Oriental Outlook. Since its launch, the program has become one of China's most influential city-themed evaluation initiatives.

According to the organizers, the 2025 selection process lasted more than three months and combined big data analysis, questionnaire surveys, document reviews, field research and expert assessments.

In the 2025 results, Hangzhou and Ningbo were named among the "2025 Happiest Cities". Wenzhou and Taizhou were also included in the same category.

At the district level, Yinzhou district of Ningbo, Fuyang and Lin'an districts of Hangzhou, Lucheng district of Wenzhou and Huangyan district of Taizhou were selected as "2025 Happiest Urban Districts".

At the county and county-level city level, Yueqing, Cixi, Yuyao and Ruian, as well as Ninghai county, all in Zhejiang province, were named among the "2025 Happiest Cities (county-level)".

The evaluation was based on an urban happiness index system covering indicators such as employment, income, quality of life, ecological environment, public safety, education, transportation and healthcare, according to the organizers.
