The first phase of the integrated solar and storage landfill project at Hangzhou Tianziling Landfill was recently completed and put into operation.

The project is expected to generate an average of 1.65 million kilowatt-hours of electricity annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 1,141 tons per year.

It will provide a green solution to help Hangzhou solve the challenges of managing a super-large city and maximizing economic and ecological benefits.

The project is the largest of its kind in the country.

"During construction, we overcame challenges such as dense underground pipelines, the steep slopes of the mountain, high fire safety requirements for the plant area, and high ecological restoration standards.  The first phase of the project was completed and put into operation in just over four months, providing new development ideas for similar sites nationwide," said Chen Qiao, project manager of State Grid (Hangzhou) Comprehensive Energy Services Co, which has undertaken the project.
