Seven experts from Chongqing’s ninth medical team to Papua New Guinea offered free medical treatment to more than 200 villagers in Hagen in the Western Highlands province from June 24 to 26.

On the morning of June 25, the experts reached Tega village. James Papa, deputy director of the Liaison Office of the Western Highlands Provincial Government, delivered a warm welcome to the experts and expressed his heartfelt gratitude for the upcoming free medical treatment.

Chen Shiming, a second secretary of the Economic and Commercial Counsellor's Office of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China in PNG, said that since 2002, China has sent nine medical teams of 90 specialists to PNG, providing medical services to 100,000 people. Apart from providing long-term medical assistance at the Port Moresby General Hospital, the teams have also gone to remote areas to conduct free medical treatment each year. 

In the afternoon, the experts went to Hagen General Hospital for a visit and academic exchange. Betty, of the personnel department of the hospital, organized staff for in-depth academic exchanges with the experts. 

The experts also provided free medical services to employees of China Harbour Engineering Company (PNG) Ltd, and offered them tips on medical disorder prevention and health care. 

The event achieved a complete success, expanding China's influence in PNG and further enhancing the friendship between the two peoples.
