Modern service industry
Lushunkou's modern service industry is gaining potential for development. The combined port construction of the international shipping center has made great progress. In 2014, Lushun Port's cargo throughput reached 24 million tons and the passenger throughput reached 900,000, a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percent and 32.4 percent respectively. The new Lushun Port ranked second in core capability construction among ports in Liaoning province. The Lushun-Tianjin route was launched and the Lushun–Dongying route recommenced.
The construction of Shuangdaowan Port has also made substantial headway. The government has approved the construction projects of public shipping lanes and general berths. A raft of clusters and blocks for service industry including the Hupowan Resort, Oceanwide International Tourism, Beibuwan International Resort, and Shida Base for Agricultural Products were listed as provincial key projects for the service industry.
The major construction work of shopping malls like Wanbao, Tesco and Xinkai has recently finished. The old department store is now receiving renovation and has taken the lead in making development plans for logistics in the city. Lushunkou has improved services and facilities for tourists, with Tianmu (Lushun) Hotspring Holiday Hotel opening for business and many local attractions striving to be ranked as 5A level scenic areas.
Lushunkou hosted 8 million visits in 2014, gaining an income of 2.25 billion yuan from tourism, up 25 percent year-on-year. Its real estate investment and commercial housing sales also increased 17.6 percent and 17.2 percent respectively. The modern service sectors like the headquarter establishments and financial industry have also witnessed healthy development.
