Industrial economy
Lushunkou's industrial economy maintains vitality for growth despite downtrends. In 2015, the total industrial output value in Lushunkou reached 29 billion yuan ($4.17 billion), a year-on-year increase of 4.5 percent. The industrial added value of above-scale industrial companies (that is, those with an annual turnover of at least 20 million yuan) was 7.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 1 percent.
In 2015, the industrial agglomeration degree was further improved in shipbuilding, locomotives, heavy equipment, pumps and other industries. The Dalian quality and safety demonstration zone for exported ships and locomotives settled in the region. Notably, COSCO’s 308,000-ton-level ultra-large oil tanker was successfully delivered to the client and began operation, and the second phase of the project, with an investment of 1.8 billion yuan, has gone smoothly. Independent research and development of vehicle network control systems has entered European and American markets, and a variety of high-end pump products used in aerospace, high-speed rail, nuclear power and related enterprises has increased to 30, gradually making the industry cluster into being.
Lushunkou has also made achievements in technological innovations and has been named a state-level advanced city for scientific and technological progress. It has brought in or launched 52 national, provincial and municipal key laboratories in 2014. Among them, the CNR Dalian Electric Traction R&D Center was listed as the first group of state-level advantageous enterprises for intellectual property. Elsewhere, Piemont (Dalian) Fashion Co’s clothing cultural and creative industry park has also begun commerce. Lushunkou’s Dalian Scientific and Technological Innovation Park has incubated 68 research & development enterprises, where a total of 80 new products have been developed throughout the year. In 2015, high-tech products made in Lushunkou have brought an added value of 2.83 billion yuan, an increase of 46 percent.
