Imports and exports of jewelry products through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge (HZMB) Zhuhai Port were valued at 14.07 billion yuan ($1.93 billion) from January to July this year, a year-on-year increase of 16.73 percent. 

The main export destinations of these products include the United States, Italy, as well as Hong Kong, and Macao. So far, 445 related enterprises have been attracted to import and export through HZMB Zhuhai Port.

Xu Jianqiang, who works at a Guangzhou jewelry manufacturer, said that jewelry is greatly affected by fluctuations in international raw material prices and its delivery timeliness requirements are high.

Previously, the enterprise's products had to be shipped via longer routes through other ports, but this year, after switching to the HZMB Zhuhai Port, the enterprise found that goods departing from Panyu Jewelry Park in the morning can generally catch flights at Hong Kong International Airport in the evening.

Ma Shaowei of HZMB Customs said that jewelry items cleared through the HZMB mainly come from processing enterprises in areas such as Guangzhou's Panyu District and Foshan's Shunde. 

These enterprises import raw materials from Hong Kong, process them into finished jewelry, and then export them to Hong Kong, where they are usually sent to European and American countries via Hong Kong airport. 

Currently, the daily import and export value of such goods through the bridge port amounts to 200 million yuan ($27.46 million), according to Ma.

Panyu in Guangzhou is a well-known jewelry industry cluster. Currently, the district holds a market share of 30 percent in the global production and processing of jewelry products.

To support the development of Guangdong's jewelry processing industry, HZMB Customs has visited local customs, conducted on-site research at jewelry industrial parks, and supported enterprises in utilizing the integrated customs clearance model. 

The customs has adopted the so-called "local declaration, port review and release" approach to ensure the smooth operation of the jewelry logistics supply chain. At the same time, considering the small volume and high value of such goods, they have optimized the supervision process and fully supported jewelry processing enterprises in increasing their overseas orders.
