Around 80 percent of the construction for Phase II of the Hengqin Checkpoint has been finished as of Jan 10, and the project will start driveway construction in March.

The Hengqin Checkpoint Phase II project covers series of works such as the ramps to Lotus Bridge, driveways for passenger and freight vehicles entering Guangdong and Macao, inspection sites and supporting facilities.

Renovations on the second floor of the Macao side of the Hengqin Checkpoint will start in June this year.

Zhang Yuying, from the Macao Office of the Secretary for Security, noted that Guangdong and Macao have been devoting great efforts to the construction of permanent driveways for the Hengqin Checkpoint Phase II project, which will apply the "joint one-stop" customs inspection model, allowing motorists and their vehicles to go through border procedures, customs inspection and quarantine inspections, all in one place.

Nine driveways for passenger vehicles and six driveways for trucks will open for those who enter Macao and 15 other driveways will be used for those who enter Zhuhai. 

It was also announced that relevant customs inspection departments in Macao and the Chinese mainland will work together to build a "joint one-stop" customs inspection model, and carry out cooperation in areas of law enforcement assistance, data transmission, equipment maintenance as well as fault and emergency handling.
