The new production base of Guangdong Pulse Medical Technology in Guangdong Medical Valley (Zhuhai) Medical Industry Accelerator began operation on Dec 11, becoming another powerful booster for biomedicine industrial development in the Zhuhai National Hi-Tech Industrial Development Zone (Tangjiawan).

Zhuhai-based Guangdong Pulse Medical Technology, established in 2014, is now a domestic leading enterprise focusing on the research, development, and marketing of cardiovascular medical instruments. It has now applied for 72 patents and its left auricle appendage occluder with a double internal plug structure, the first of its kind around the world, is about to start commercial sales.

Moreover, the enterprise has been taking an active part in the R&D of several innovative cardiovascular medical instruments, striving to build a leading domestic high-end medical device innovation platform for structural heart diseases.

Ge Junbo, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, delivered a video speech at the commencement ceremony, noting that the number of Chinese patients who need interventional therapy has been ranking high globally yet the development history of China's interventional discipline is relatively short.

Ge noted that a majority of products used in cardiovascular medicine are imported and the localization of these products is an urgent problem to be solved to relieve patients' economic burden.

Ruan Chengmin, founder and chairman of Guangdong Pulse Medical Technology, said that Tangjiawan is advantageous in resources, location, transportation, preferential industrial policies, and investment environment, which attracts enterprises to the zone.

Guangdong Pulse Medical Technology has been working with cardiovascular experts to establish an integrated model featuring both medicine and engineering, turning experts' clinical experience into outcomes that can bring more benefits for patients. It is expected that the new model can develop more high-end products with huge potential to satisfy clinical demands.

The biomedicine and medical device industry is one of the distinctive industrial clusters that Tangjiawan has been giving priority to. It has maintained a high-speed growth of more than 20 percent for seven consecutive quarters.

Guangdong Medical Valley has been attaching great importance to its development in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Area and has laid out projects in Guangzhou and Zhuhai, as well as in Foshan. The Zhuhai base is the largest with the highest construction standard.

An official of Guangdong Medical Valley noted that the valley will continue to introduce more sci-tech innovative enterprise to Zhuhai, making more contributions to the development of the city's biomedicine industry.
