Guishan Island enjoys tourist boom in National Day holiday
Guishan Island, the closest island in the Wanshan Archipelago to downtown Zhuhai, attracted 12,118 tourists and generated 8.48 million yuan ($1.19 million) in total tourism consumption during the week-long National Day Holiday, which ran from Oct 1 to 7.
The daily number of round-trip ferries to Guishan Passenger Terminal from Xiangzhou, Guangzhou's Nansha, as well as Shenzhen's Shekou ports reached a year high of 24 during the holiday.

In addition to being a demonstrative island for Red (revolutionary) Tourism, Guishan Island is also appealing to tourists for its coastal scenery and water sports. Landmarks like Wen Tianxiang Cultural Square and Guishan Lighthouse are among the most appealing sites for visitors, providing views of the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge in the distance.
A special post office has been built by Guishan Town in Lighthouse Park, which allows visitors to get an exclusive stamp of the Guishan Lighthouse, as well as a customized postcard with their own pictures and recorded voice.
Products like masks, blind boxes, and commemorative badges of the distinctive cultural tourism brand "桂小白," developed on the basis of Chinese white dolphins, sold at Guishan Ferry Terminal and Tourist Service Center were particularly popular with visitors.
A woman from Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province who visited the island during the holiday said that people living on the island are very simple and honest, adding that the climate was also very pleasant.
Of note, measures were taken to ensure COVID-19 pandemic prevention and control efforts were effective, such as inspection channels that separated people with only a Zhuhai travel history and those with a travel history to other cities. A nucleic acid testing site was also set up near the inspection channels, collecting 10,717 samples.
Nearly 100 volunteers were also dispatched by Guishan Town, serving nearly 8,000 visitors.
