A new ecological tourism landmark alongside the Pingtang River in Doumen's Pingsha Town will open to the public in October after construction and renovation.

Boasting an investment of 190 million yuan ($28 million), the project will be built in two phases. The 111,000-sq-m (27-acre) first phase stretches 1.3 km (.8 miles) of the river from Ruyi Bridge in the north to Zhiqing Bridge in the south.

Phase I of the project will include a parent-child waterfront area, leisure and vitality waterfront area, as well as the reconstruction and upgrading of Meiping Square.

Design of the parent-child waterfront area will take the demands of children of different ages into consideration, while entertainment facilities will be installed to allow parents and children to play together. Colorful floor coatings will also be used to make the place lively. 

The leisure and vitality waterfront area will make full use of the existing green areas. New walkways, distinctive corridors, and interesting miniature exhibits will also be built. In addition, more flowering trees will be planted on the west bank of the river.

One highlight of the project is the renovation and upgrading of Meiping Square, which includes the renovation of out-of-date infrastructure, installation of fitness facilities, and road repairs.

Artistic lightning will be integrated into the square's design to turn it into a distinctive landmark for Pingsha Town.

In addition, parking spaces for vehicles and non-motor vehicles will be set up near the square to meet public demands.
