Doumen District has total wampee (Chinese huang pi) plantation area of 345 mu (23 hectares) and is expected to yield 350 metric tons of succulent fruit for this year's harvest season, according to the district's Agriculture & Rural Affairs Bureau.

The three main varieties of wampee planted in Doumen, namely heart-shaped, coreless, and sweet wampee, have gradually enter the market in late June and early July. Price of every 500 grams of the fruit is around 12 yuan ($2) this year, 3 yuan ($.44) cheaper than previous years.

Predominantly grown in Southern China, wampee is oval and light brown in color and sweet and sour in taste. It has high nutritional value, such as Vitamin C, sugar, organic acid, pectin, and flavone glycosides, making it effective for relieving dyspepsia, coughs, as well as colds.
