Daxiu Silk String Guchin Craftsmanship from Zhuhai's Xiangzhou District was included on the list of the Eighth Batch of Guangdong Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritages, which was released on May 20 by the People's Government of Guangdong Province.
Daxiu Silk String Guchin is difficult to make. Its wooden instrument body and surface are coated with raw lacquer to ensure natural timbre and endurance but might trigger allergies or cause itching and soars. The string, however, is made of silk rather than cable wire or nylon.
Few people are willing to learn the technique. The present inheritor of Daxiu Silk String Guchin Craftsmanship is Ding Hong at Xuanmo Cottage.
A total of 236 intangible cultural heritage items in Guangdong applied to be upgraded as a provincial ICH item. The selection and review process, started in early 2021, included the recommendation and application, materials examination, expert review, as well as publicity and opinion soliciting stages.
