Hong Kong-Zhuhai Macao Bridge (HZMB), Chimelong Ocean Kingdom in Hengqin, and By-Health Biotechnology's transparent factory were among the 800 entrees in the first batch of national science popularization bases (2021-25) as determined by the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).

The 55-km (34-mile) HZMB is the world's longest sea-spanning structure. Its 264-sq-m management and maintenance center is located on the first floor of the HZMB Authority's office building at No 368 Henglong Road in Xiangzhou District.

Interactive electronic devices with advanced technologies are applied in the center, showcasing achievements that have been made in HZMB's construction.

The 147-hectare Chimelong Ocean Kingdom owns over 400 billboards, such as flat panels, interactive panels, and interactive touch screens, for science popularization. Scattered all over the theme park's 13 animal zones, they allow visitors to learn more about animals and marine life, while getting a close look at the marine creatures.

The Ocean Kingdom also has an expert team consisting of over 30 members with a variety of professional academic backgrounds like biology, education, and psychology. The resort also has four special classrooms and 22 mobile ones, giving out more than 50 courses daily. 

Theme science popularization reading materials and online science popularization activities have been arranged, while study tours are available in the resort all year round. It is able to receive 100,000 visitors annually. 

By-Health Biotechnology's transparent factory in Jinwan District has received 1.05 million visitors since its opening in 2012. It offers nearly 60 kinds of high-tech immersive interactive experience in four sections, explaining information regarding nutrition and health in a vivid and interesting way through the use of multimedia technologies.

At its smart factory, visitors can see how nutritional ingredients from 23 countries are used to create finished products through highly automated processes spanning manufacturing, inspection, and packaging.

According to CAST, only sites open to the public and have specific functions in science popularization and education can be designated as a science popularization base. To date, Zhuhai has 32 such bases at different levels.
