The auxiliary roads south to the tunnel, as well as the excavation and protection facilities of the tunnel side slopes have been finished, while construction of its main structure is underway. The tunnel is expected to open this year.
The dual four-lane tunnel will be about 960 m (.60 miles) in length with a designed speed limit of 40 kmph (24.9 mph). Once operational, it will alleviate the traffic congestion on Central Lovers Avenue during holidays.
The pedestrian path set above the tunnel will meet the needs of sightseers walking between Haibin Park and the Xianglu Bay Beach. The project will also provide space for the transformation and upgrading of the area's environment, as well as promote tourism development along the Lovers Avenue Coastal Zone.
